Get To Know Me

We’ve been at this for a few months, and I think it’s about time I introduce myself, don’t you?

I’m J. Sometimes I go by Jen, sometimes I go by Bel, sometimes I go by Eire. It all depends on where you find me. But they’re all me. I’m 39 as of the writing of this blog, and I will hold on to that 3 for as long as humanly possible. (I’m a little gun-shy about turning 40, okay?)

We took a break for about a month there while I tried to sort out some health stuff, and I appreciate your patience with me. I don’t really have a lot of new answers, but what I do have is a game plan! We’re going to try physical therapy for my bad shoulder (the one with the rotator cuff tear of unknown origin), and I’m going to get some information about weight loss surgery.

Wait, wait! Don’t leave just yet! I’m not bailing on doing this the “right” way, with healthy eating and exercise. I am trying to get information, not jumping onto an operating room table! I want all of my health decisions this year to be informed, to be educated, not just by YouTube or Google searches. I want to ask real doctors for real information and education on real processes and procedures, and this is one of them.

I’m determined to start my 40th year healthy, no matter what that means for me. And that means rethinking how I relate to food — ALL food — and how I move my body. Those may seem simple enough, but I’ve got plenty of things working against me on this. Thankfully, I have an excellent care team working with me who also want to see me get healthy. Who knows? Maybe by the time I’m 40, I won’t need so many diabetic meds, either. 🙂 We’ll just have to wait and see.
